Port Dalhousie Creates Space for Housing & Entertainment

Significant growth and development has been made in Port Dalhousie over the last few years, making this once quaint beach town an up-and-coming rec and leisure hotspot. From the rehabilitation of the pier, to the development and expansion of residential properties, Port Dalhousie only continues to expand and create opportunities that provide new and existing residents with a sense of place, allowing tourism to flourish. These developments have created opportunities for entertainment in the area, drawing local artists to the Old Port Locks Stage on the Docks just outside one of Port Dalhousie’s newest residential developments, The Royal Port. The revitalization of Port Dalhousie has not only created opportunity for significant development, but has done so while conserving it’s historical landmarks and enhancing its heritage buildings and landscapes.

A New & Improved Harbourside

The recent renovation to the Port Dalhousie pier has attracted new life to the area with environmental impacts still in mind. Crumbling underwater infrastructure has tainted the pier’s beauty for many years, until construction to rehabilitate the pier began in early 2019. The official reopening of the pier was presented this past spring, admisdt the COVID-19 pandemic, although this did not prevent it from becoming a significant attraction throughout summer 2021.The sight of community members riding their bikes, walking with friends, and jogging alongside the water has not only been a testament to the new concrete walkway, but to the importance of this landmark throughout the Port Dalhousie community.

Upgraded Waterfront & Living Spaces

Residential development in Port Dalhousie has greatly expanded and with a view too! The Royal Port condominiums, an eight storey residential building overlooking the waterfront, contains upscale luxury suites offering a wide variety of possibilities for buyers, with suites ranging from 1, 2, or 3- bedroom options. This building draws attention to the recreational amenities that Port Dalhousie has to offer, including the Lakeside Park Beach, the Dalhousie Yacht Club, the Port Dalhousie Pier Marina, and the Waterfront Walking Trail. These residential living spaces are walking distance to small shops, cafés and restaurants, located at the heart of town with immediate access to the town’s most popular amenities.

Adjacent to the Royal Port condominium building is a nine storey multi-use building, The Harbour Club Residences, that is set to include 117 condominium units for residents, a working restaurant and café, and six live-work units. Amenities of the building include a full fitness centre, infinity pool, party room and more, making this property a highly attractive investment for the area . These two developments have extended opportunities for potential buyers who seek a sense of community on the south shore of Lake Ontario, specifically those coming from the Greater-Toronto-Area.

New Ways To Play

The Old Port Locks Stage at Lakeport Road and Lock Street in Port Dalhousie has recently attracted local artists to perform, providing free outdoor entertainment to locals and tourists alike. This unique setting is often used to showcase both local and travelling artists, and it has  served as a special treat throughout several months which required social distancing. A recent performance featured local band Riders of the Storm, who performed this October in collaboration with a local business that wanted to express their sincere gratitude to the surrounding community. The Old Port Locks Stage has been successful in not only offering live entertainment, but supporting local business owners and town investments with their partnership efforts.

For those considering a trip to Port Dalhousie, you can’t ignore one of it’s longest standing antiques: The Lakeside Park Carousel, perhaps the area’s most famous attraction for locals and tourists. Just a few minutes walk from the beach, the Lakeside Park Carousel is a premium destination with the ability to bring out the child in all of us. Maintaining it’s standing admission price of five cents a ride, the carousel is a timeless tradition with the necessary magic to bring generations together. Through years of careful preservation since 1921, this historical landmark represents a significant piece of Port Dalhousie hospitality and tourism, and has been linked to several volunteer programs and fundraising campaigns tied to community efforts.
